Over summer, we headed down to the sunny lakefront to meet the team at Flyboard Queenstown. They had an awesome new product launching and we we’re keen to check it out. While they are famous for having the most unique adventure activity in Queenstown, it was time to add a jet-pack to their hydro flight mix.
You’re able to choose between the appropriately named Hero or Super Hero Flights on the flyboard. Derek gave the flyboarding a go, while I paired up with owner Beau and tested out the newest adventure on Lake Wakatipu – the tandem jet-pack.
Derek took a few attempts to get the hang of how the concept worked, but after that he was able to get up on the flyboard and pick up some height. Even my 14 year old brother could pick it up quite easily which was reassuring.
I was super keen to try out the jet-pack – especially having a professional managing the controls. They strap you in to the seat, and all you need to do is hold on and enjoy the ride.
We were able to do some epic twists, dips and underwater dives, which definitely got my adrenaline pumping. If you’re not up for the thrilling hydrobatics, let your pilot know and you’ll be able to take it easy and really appreciate the views from this unique perspective.
World-champ Gemma stopped by to show us all how it’s done – drawing a crowd and inspiring us all.
The team at Flyboard Queenstown
supply you with 5mm wetsuits and life vests – if you’re worried about the temperature of the water (like we were) I can honestly tell you that I couldn’t feel the cold – even when diving underneath it, as my adrenaline was taking full control. They also give you a decent training session before you hit the water, and guide you from the jet-ski during your experience.
So if you’re looking for something a bit unique and you’ve got a taste for adventure – we recommend you give flyboarding or the thrilling jet-pack flight a go. It was the best fun we’d had in a long time!
